Burned, Spurned and Learned

Hey Folks!

I figured something out today - you are never too old to learn something. I learned that when you are going to complain to one of your friends, choose that friend wisely. I called my buddy Goob up in Chicago, you know to say Hi. In reality I was looking for someone to whine about the sunburn I just received whilst I was in the Caribbean - I mean I was in pain and peeling. Not only did he not want to hear about my little problem, he went on a rant about how he is now laid up in bed with back spasms because of shoveling the fourteen or so inches of snow out of his driveway.

Oops.

I told him I will have to call him later, and then I went on to search my phone numbers for someone who would understand and feel sorry for me. It didn’t take long. I found another comic friend of mine who just happened to be working a cruise, and guess what? He was in the Caribbean too!  Not only did he understand about sunburn, but he offered a solution to my problem, aloe vera gel. Plus he then suggested that I keep my whining to comics only – he said that people who actually work for a living will never understand. Tell me about it.

Just so you know, I am alright now. I did have to take my laptop in to get repaired - apparently aloe gel is good for sunburn, not so good for the keyboard.

Hope this finds you well, and happy that spring is just around the corner. For those of you in Phoenix and California, I will be on a six-day swing with the Homecoming folks, looking forward to seeing you there. Next week is a charity golf tournament in Jacksonville. I only do a couple of those a year so this will be fun.

Take care, and God’s Blessings,
Jeff

Backing Off the Java

Sorry for the delay in writing, no excuse other than I am weaning my body of caffeine. It’s all I can do to stay out of jail. Kids, caffeine is bad. With all the Starbucks going in around the world, no wonder we are having a problem with civility. And here I thought it was the denial of the existence of a moral absolute. Silly me. We are just over-caffeinated.

As some of you know, Tami and I have just returned from Nicaragua; we were on a mission’s trip with World Vision. I don’t have time to go into great detail right this moment, but let me just say the trip has changed our lives - and consequently what we want to do with our lives. I am only grateful that I didn’t try to make that trip without caffeine; I might not have gotten out of the country.

Tami and I are getting ready to head off to the Caribbean with Bill and Gloria Gaither, an option that 95% of the planet will never have. Hence we will try not to complain too much about the quality of the food or whether or not our cabin will face the sunset. We are blessed people. We are also sinful enough to forget that. Count your blessings today. I know I will be - one decaf at a time.
